Natalie Hood

Yoga Instructor

A native Canadian, Natalie discovered yoga while living in Vancouver, BC in 2006. Like many new moms, she was looking for a way to stay fit. She tried yoga at the recommendation of a friend, and immediately fell in love. Yoga felt like dance, something Natalie had pursued in younger years. But while dance is pursued for aesthetic and performance reasons, often to the detriment of the dancer's body, yoga is an inside job. It is meant to be witnessed internally by the practitioner, and the only goal is wellness.

Yoga became an all consuming passion, and gradually shifted from a fitness pursuit to something deeper. Natalie discovered that bringing attention and focus to her physical body, guided by skilled teachers to move with subtlety, could allow the outer world, and all its complexities, to fade away. Her mind became quiet, and she could connect to her inner landscape. This newfound connection within helped her navigate some of life's challenging questions and ease into difficult answers. Yogic philosophy and aspects of Buddhist teachings also provided groundwork.

In 2010, Natalie moved to Los Angeles to study with "The Teacher's Teacher", Annie Carpenter. She participated in 400 hrs of Training, including a six month Apprenticeship. Natalie has been teaching ever since.

In 2015 Natalie married a Navy man and moved to Virginia Beach. She's taught at several Virginia Beach and Norfolk studios, and also leads a 200 Hour Teacher Training program, Workshops for students and Continuing Education Workshops for yoga teachers, Private Yoga sessions and yoga teacher Mentorship.

Natalie's classes are technical and informative, with a strong focus on learning. Yoga postures and practice provide a vehicle of inquiry into the physical and deeper layers of the body, mind and spirit, and sometimes into broader questions of human existence.
